The Jeremiah Group is a broad-based, institution-based community organization in metropolitan New Orleans.
Broad-based
Jeremiah is comprised of religious congregations and other institutions in the metropolitan New Orleans area, with the mission to transform the practice of politics in this City, from the neighborhood to the metro-level. The organization is multi-racial, multi-issue and currently includes member institutions that are Baptist, Catholic, Episcopalian, United Church of Christ, Church of God in Christ, United Methodist, American Methodist Episcopal and public schools.
Institution-based
The membership is compromised of institutions, not individuals, in order to create the deepest possible constituency in our communities. Membership is open to religious congregations, schools and other community institutions.
Community organizing effort
Jeremiah is non-partisan and never endorses political candidates or parties. Jeremiah addresses the issues and needs of the entire community.
Metropolitan New Orleans.
With member institutions throughout Orleans Parish and Jefferson Parish, we seek to represent all parts of the New Orleans metro area.
A quarter of Road Home applicants in the 9th Ward and St. Roch, nearly a fifth in Lakeview and a sixth in Gentilly are expected to sell their homes to the state, rather than rebuild, based on an analysis of 60 percent of applications from New Orleans.
